Description
| Campus Title | Digital Collections Librarian |
|---|---|
| Department | Milne Library |
| Position Summary | Milne Library has a well-established culture of innovation and excellence in library services. The Library is committed to robust and meaningful engagement with the campus community and puts a high value on cultural inclusivity, diversity, collaboration, and creativity. Our library building has recently reopened after an extensive multi-year renovation, a primary feature of which is a new Digitization Lab, dedicated Reading Room for Special Collections, and a climate-controlled, secure space for the College Archives and Special Collections. We are seeking a Digital Collections Librarian who is dedicated to student and faculty success in a liberal arts environment. The Digital Collections Librarian is primarily responsible for prioritizing and managing projects to publish digital collections which contribute to the existing KnightScholar Digital Collections. KnightScholar Digital Collections aim to tell the rich story of the intellectual and cultural history of the College and the surrounding region through the development and publication of open digital collections. In particular, the Civil War Letters of Elisha Randolph Robinson and the College Archives Photo Collection represent two of our most recent collections and serve as examples of the careful planning, execution, and project management necessary to make each collection a valuable research tool and contribution to the digital collections. Beyond the above-stated primary responsibilities, this position will also be responsible for developing and refining existing workflows, procedures, and policies. As the manager of the Digitization Lab, this position will oversee the space, use and train others to use equipment and software, manage access, develop workflows and procedures, and work with Library and College IT departments as needed. This position will seek external funding opportunities and participate in grant writing. In order to promote existing collections and solicit material for future collections, this position will also be responsible for marketing and promotion of digital collections and liaisoning with various campus departments and programs (e.g. GREAT Day planning committee, McNair Scholars Program Director, and the Student Ambassador Program Director) to ensure that the College’s history as well as faculty and student accomplishments are properly documented and archived. The College is proud of its new graduate program in History and experiential learning opportunities offered to undergraduate and graduate students alike. To support the appetite for hands-on learning experience in the College Archives and Special Collections, this position will be responsible for supervising student internships, directed studies, and/or work study student employees. Thus the person in this position should be comfortable working with students and different campus stakeholders as well as have experience and skill in project management and the ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form. The Digital Collections Librarian position belongs to the Collection Management department of Milne Library. This position would work as part of the College Archives and Special Collections team which includes the Special Collections Librarian and Collection Management Assistant. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusive professional and interpersonal practices. The successful applicant will enter a full-time tenure-track position at the Senior Assistant Librarian rank. The initial appointment for this position is two years with the potential for renewal.
